How to make an Açaí Bowl

Açaí Bowl
Açaí Bowl
Açaí is a deep purple berry from Brazil which is absolutely loaded with antioxidants. Açaí bowls are one of those things that make me envy those living in Australia or California – they seem to have hundreds of cute beachy cafes selling açaí bowls served with all sorts of tropical toppings from coconut shavings to fresh kiwi. Whilst it is becoming more and more available in cafés here in London, the price tends to be pretty extortionate.

The best solution is to make your own açaí bowl at home. For this super simple, mouth-watering recipe, you can use frozen açaí pulp, or for a more easily available option, I recommend açaí powder which you can order online or buy in a health store. You also have the option to add in a scoop of vanilla protein powder, as much for the nutritional value as for that sweet flavour.

When it comes to toppings, I love adding any fresh fruit I have at home, a sprinkle of cacao nibs, a dollop of Raspberry Chia Jam and a handful of Eli’s Granola.

  • 1 frozen bananas
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 2 tablespoons açaí powder (or frozen açaí pulp)
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen mixed berries
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder

Simply blend everything together until smooth, then get creative with the toppings! My favourite toppings include Eli’s Granola, sliced kiwi, strawberries, pomegranate seeds, cacao nibs and goji berries.
