Blueberry, Tahini & Walnut Smoothie

I love using smoothies as an efficient way to cram in lots of nutrients at breakfast time. This Blueberry, Tahini & Walnut Smoothie is a deliciously nourishing drink that balances the three macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fat), along with fibre, antioxidants and plant-based omega-3 from the walnuts.

It is important to strike this balance when making a smoothie, in order to reduce the blood sugar spike that can occur from simple carbohydrate-based smoothies. For example, a banana, mango and date smoothie – while it sounds very tasty – is likely to spike your blood glucose levels as it is almost entirely carbohydrates.

Note: I highly recommend investing in a good blender if you’re going to be making lots of smoothies! I use this Nutribullet which is a high enough standard and very affordable.

Blueberry, Tahini & Walnut Smoothie

Serves 4 


  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 150g blueberries
  • 250g plain yoghurt (dairy-free if you like)
  • 75g walnuts
  • 4 heaped tbsp tahini
  • 4 tbsp ground flax seeds
  • 450ml almond milk (or milk of choice)


  1. Add all ingredients to a blender and blend under a smoothie liquid is formed.
  2. Pour into 4 glasses and serve!
